State Minister Delano Seiveright, speaking at Mastercard Day Jamaica 2026: approximately 422,000 registered micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), accounting for roughly 80 per cent of jobs in Jamaica and supporting more than 1.1 million workers.
  2. Jamaica Business Development Corporation survey findings, reported by the Jamaica Gleaner and the Jamaica Observer. 32.44 per cent of MSME respondents use digital technologies daily; a baseline study at the start of the Digital Jamaica project found 32 per cent of MSMEs comfortable using digital solutions, with usage concentrated in social media.
  3. World Bank, in coordination with the Inter-American Development Bank — Global Rapid Damage Estimation, 19 November 2025. Physical damage to Jamaica from Hurricane Melissa estimated at US$8.8 billion, equivalent to 41 per cent of the country's 2024 GDP, making it the costliest hurricane in Jamaica's recorded history.
  4. Jamaica Business Development Corporation — Hurricane Melissa recovery reporting, 25 June 2026. JBDC states that MSMEs seeking recovery finance must be ready with proper records, documentation, evidence of damage and costings to support funding requests.
  5. World Bank — Digital Economy for Latin America and the Caribbean: Country Diagnostic — Jamaica, April 2024. Identifies limited digital transformation among MSMEs, and limited interoperability with a siloed approach across ministries, departments and agencies producing inefficiencies, inconsistencies and higher costs.
